Granted

Posted by: | Comments (0)

It can be easy to take things for granted can’t it??
This morning I am sitting at the Airport and was suddenly struck by the fact of how different my life is in so many ways.
There are negatives and positives of course. More stress, bigger dramas, more responsibility and bigger devils, however to be able to jump on a plane to Australia just to have a meeting and not have to ring my boss or worry about my pay being short as a result is quite incredible.

We joined the Koru Club this week, (because Raewyn finally decided we could afford it), so I even get to sit in a lovely lounge with free food/internet access etc.

When God first laid Fiji on my heart I had to do hours and hours of overtime to save up enough money just to be able to fly there and pay for the goods we were giving. I would always have in my mind how many hours I would have to do when I returned also to make up for it. 7 day weeks, 12 to 16 hour days, but I did it because I knew I was called to Fiji and my love for the people outweighed my wanting to work less.

Now we can simply transfer more funds than I ever thought possible to Fiji and arrive to our own home in Tavua and potentially impact a whole nation instead of just a few people. Thanks to taking some “Massive Action” and due to the incredible kindness and support of our clients and friends we are now able to consider any project in Fiji.

And the kindness of so many of you almost has me in tears here in the lounge. Just this week a gorgeous young lady who is now a good friend of mine sent us $1000 to be spent in Fiji. No reason, no manipulation, she just wanted to bless our work and thank us for the input we have into her life through things like this blog. Isn’t that incredible. I’ve had another friend, currently in England do the same thing a few months ago, along with many other incredible gifts and support. The difference to the people I love in Fiji is indescribable.

I guess when you have a vision bigger than yourself and pursue it with honesty and transparency, others can and will support you in it.

In fact sometimes I lie in bed at night wondering if we could get enough funds flowing in to actually fund the government COMPLETELY and deal with the corruption there once and for all. Imagine if I could go the Suva council and say that I am going to build 5000 homes for all the squatters living in filth with no hope. Or go to the government and say that I was in a position to provide clean water to the entire country!!
A pipe dream??, maybe, but hey if I wasn’t a dreamer I’d still be working 7 days a week for $25 an hour

I share this with you not to “big note”, nothing could be further from my mind, but to encourage you that you can achieve what you decide you will have. In October 2004 Raewyn and I decided to try and get ourselves in a position where we could do a lot more in Fiji and not have to worry about money.

Well we still worry about money in one sense because God keeps placing opportunities in our hands that require risk and create stress, but we have far exceeded our goals to be able to serve God in Fiji and help the people of that nation. Now God is opening doors for us into other nations as well that we never imagined possible.

So pursue your goals, never give up on your dreams and decide that success is possible.

As Yoda said: “Try, there is no try, there is just do or not do”.

Hedge clippers

When our Aussie mates were out here it was interesting how many times they commented on our tall poppy syndrome.

I mean these are Aussies??

But even they can’t believe how we treat success here. I think it has undoubtedly gotten worse over the years, especially recent years, fuelled by a victim mentality/socialist government.

It is something that will in some ways affect us all unless we take deliberate action against it. Sadly in society when we “go with the flow” we become like all the other sheep.

So what is the problem really. Well it’s too big a question for me to answer as it embraces this nations spiritual condition, our ingrained culture and our government’s negative attitude, however I want to comment on 1 thing.

Champions. New Zealand used to be a nation of champions. In many areas of endeavour we were simply the best and we believed it. And it wasn’t fuelled by a desire to dominate another, it was simply pride in our selves and our abilities.

Sadly things like professionalism in sport has changed the very fabric of how we think now. Now it is all about beating the other guy instead of simply operating as the champions we know we are.

You see when you think like a champion you don’t even need an opponent. This is a position of success based on your existence, not your performance. It translates into success against opposition but the motivation is different.

This is critical because it applies to you my friend. If you believe you are a champion when you get out of bed you will start to behave like a champion and get the results of a champion.

What does a champion look like?? Here are a few classic trademarks. How do you compare?

1. Selfless. Real champions are concerned about others first. Sir Edmund Hillary being a perfect example. His greatest concern was the people of Nepal, never himself.

2. Patriotic. The aptly named “invincibles” All Black squad of years ago were renowned for their love of representing their country. Donning the black jersey was a patriotic and almost religious experience for them.

3. Tenacious. Real champions don’t understand the phrase “give up”. The world is littered with inventions that came after thousands and thousands of failed experiments. Birthed through the hands and brains of true champions.

4. “Big hearted”. When you look at the lives of so called champions I often see 2 distinct categories, true champions and “shooting star” champions.
The latter are people who have risen to fame for some reason and for a brief moment are considered champions. However one of the true tests of a champion, time, always shows them to be lacking. And the core difference between this group and a true champion is that a true champion is motivated from his heart. They live big but they love big too. They give and inspire and encourage and motivate, not for any personal recognition or financial gain but because their heart tells them to love even when it isn’t easy, to give because that is the right thing to do.

There is a champion inside of you. Right now you can say to yourself, I am a champion. Then like Thomas you can say “I think I can I think I can I think I can” and start to walk as a champion. Know that you are blessed and that you ARE a success and treat yourself like the champion you are inside. It will change your life.

Aussie rules!!

Posted by: | Comments (2)

Well we had a great day Saturday. Nearly 200 new converts to investing in Oz!!
It was interesting having some Aussies there as they were blown away by the quality of our material and the event. I would have thought we were poor cousins to the Australian event people but apparently we are top shelf by their standards.

There really is a great opportunity there for the next 2 to 3 years so I hope you find out more and get into a market growing like crazy!!

The other interesting thought for the day is this:
You will only find out new things if you choose to expose yourself to new things and if you decide to listen.

The Aussie guys at the event were expecting to be bored listening to 2 kiwis talk about Oz. However they sat there mesmerised as we explained the Australian property market. These are people full time in the property industry and they were blown away by what we knew that they didn’t know. They had never exposed themselves to information outside their own immediate circle. It impacted them so much that they are going to go and look at investing in the hotspots we identified because they said our research was faultless and they can see greater opportunities thanks to us than they had found themselves.

So this week go and buy a book you would never normally read, try some ethnic food you have never tasted, book a course you would never normally go to, do SOMETHING to expand who you are, there could be money/love/fulfilment, who knows what gems might be hidden in it you never imagined.

Doing something different

Posted by: | Comments (0)

It’s been interesting for me preparing for Conquering Oz. Normally I do my own events so I focus exclusively on the things I know and major on.

With this event because much of the material is Matt’s we have worked together on the content to make sure we aren’t doubling up etc. So I have had to enter the world of an analytical left brained person.

The amount of research he does and the screeds of reports etc. just blew my mind.

The information gathered as a result is incredible. It really opened my eyes to the power of research.

Thanks to Matt I now know that the facts back up what I thought. More importantly I now know exactly where to invest and how to ensure maximum gains. Not sure if I am explaining myself well, all you left brained ones will just shrug but for all the right brained ones this could be a revelation. Research = better results.

So for those of you who can’t make it on Saturday, (although most of NZ seems to have booked :-) ), make sure you get some serious homework going on Oz.

It is without doubt one of the world hot spots for investors for the next 36 months. Every professional researcher, Salt, Matusik, Midwood, Ryder, every last one of them all confirm Oz is going off. It may not be your bag but don’t write it off without finding out what is going on.

Imagine NZ in 2001, then imagine 5 times the population and a chronic housing shortage.
Well don’t imagine it, it is a reality TODAY in parts of Oz.
See you on the weekend :-)

Bigger than ourselves

Posted by: | Comments (0)

I know I will get accused of big headedness but hopefully you will see past that unintended impression.

I was editing the DVD content from our Behind Closed Doors workshop and as I listened to Raewyn and myself I couldn’t help but think how good the material was. Nobody teaches this stuff and yet it is so critical.

Given the feedback we have had of reconciled marriages and freedom from depression and past pain etc. I am deeply humbled by God’s goodness in sharing with me His principles for life so that I can share them with others.
Sometimes life sucks you know, and the only way to really get free from that is to go to a power greater than ourselves.

We all need somebody smarter/stronger and more loving than we are sometimes. And each and every one of us has to find that place for ourselves. Drugs don’t do it, sex doesn’t do it, power and money don’t do it. None of these will ever solve a love deficit. None of these will ever make us feel at peace.

I nearly cried last night watching a programme on plastic surgery where a man had been through about 9 operations and was in my opinion hideously disfigured. His primary reason?? His stepdad had called him an ugly b*****d when he was a kid. So he spend his adult life trying to be free from those words through plastic surgery, when he could have been free in an hour through the power of forgiveness.

I trust that for you today that your pursuit of truth and wholeness is grounded in a search for someone or something greater than yourself. This is the path to true success in life.

Pruning

Posted by: | Comments (0)

We had the most incredible prophet speak at church on Sunday and I wanted to share a story he told as it so relates to all of us.

He went away on holiday and their gardener had been busy pruning the roses in their absence.
Upon his return he drove up the driveway to the sight of his beloved roses now reduced to a stick and couple of prongs on the top.

He went in search of the gardener to commence strangling him, much to the gardener’s amusement.

The gardener explained that he would have to wait and see the fruit of his pruning in the next season.

Well of course the next season produced an incredible crop of roses on what he thought were “ruined” plants.

However the interesting part of the story is that the gardener had missed a couple of rose bushes out the back. They were completely untouched from the last year.

When he went to look at them he realised how essential pruning was.
These plants had far fewer blooms. These plants had so much foliage and wispy branches that all their energy was being exerted on keeping the plant going, there was inadequate energy for it to bear much fruit.

And all the wispy branches were becoming enmeshed and entangled.

In that moment God spoke to him and said “you know these plants don’t have to “do” anything to get entangled and sapped of energy, they just have to avoid pruning.”

I spent a lot of my life avoiding pruning. In fact more often than I want to admit I still do.
Change and growth in our lives always requires something to be let go of or something to embrace, and it is nearly never fun.

But the analogy with the roses is so perfect. If we don’t allow ourselves to be pruned we will become more entangled in things that are energy sapping and without fruit or results.

Meaningless work and activity always fills any space provided for it. The only way to not let it consume our lives is to “cut it out” of our lives. And as we do we suddenly find we can get more done, achieve better results and have more energy.

BUT, (there’s always a but), we have to go through the pain of pruning to ever get there. We all want the gain without pain don’t we??

Well welcome to your future choices.
You can have an “easy life” full of weeds and lacking in achievement OR
Welcome the secateurs when they come knowing that what you are discarding will enable you to become the fruitful beauty you were designed to be!!

Negative Grind

Posted by: | Comments (0)

I find it quite fascinating watching the media go berserk over property at the moment.
Having not been around the industry for as long as some this is the first time I have witnessed such a frenzy.

Given that NZ is such a small place I have to wonder how much impact they actually have on the market. The doom and gloom merchants all getting together in sack cloth and ashes can easily create a quite artificial situation for a while.

Sadly BlueChip falling apart at the same time doesn’t help. Bluechip is a genuine news story but it all gets lumped in as proof that Chicken Little was right.

The ultimate effect of all this feeding frenzy is likely to be more and more people losing more and more money as they take rash action to try and avoid Armageddon.

Oh for a more responsible media who would point out that whilst housing is certainly soft at the moment we need to understand the overall situation.

1. We have a chronic workforce shortage that is only getting worse. If we had better government we would be increasing immigration numbers now to alleviate this. We will have to increase immigration eventually and by not doing it now we will create an artificially big boom when we have to open the flood gates.

2. The reserve banks behaviour with interest rates has proven to be as bad as everybody told them it would be and as a result there is a strong likelihood of rates easing sooner rather than later, this will cause housing to recover.

3. Because property is a cycle the fact that we are coming into what may or may not be a slump means that a boom is coming next, so people need to plan to cope through the slump knowing their property will still double in value every ten years.

4. New Zealand remains a great place to live and as soon as we get better government we should also see us competing better with Australia for immigrants through better tax incentives and pro active business attraction.

In other words a responsible media would be saying “Don’t panic”

Gotta go, just saw a pig fly past my window :-)
