Misguided, but honourable none the less.
ByMy views on Labour’s policies are well known, so my comment today may surprise you.
But I think it has to be acknowledged that Michael Cullen has at least shown himself to be a man of principle in his recent budget announcement and other media reporting.
After Keys totally stole Labour’s thunder regarding tax cuts, many politicians would have attempted to better the opposition in a vote winning attempt, however Cullen didn’t.
He simply said this is what I believe we can afford and I’m sticking to it. He even went so far as to say that he was so confident of his position that no responsible person would act differently.
And he has made it clear to all and sundry that he is concerned with the lower socio-economic people in this country, not the so called “rich pricks”.
So this I can handle. When someone makes their position clear and sticks to it I can admire that. I don’t have to agree with it, but you can respect a man of principle.
It has been interesting to see John Key start to squirm in comparison now that he finally has an opportunity to show how he would produce bigger tax cuts, it is becoming apparent that he can’t, so now he is minimising his primary platform.
I hope this is not an indicator of things to come. Whilst I want National’s immigration and business policies, NZ desperately needs fixing, I don’t want that if it is at the hands of people we can’t trust.
