Sometimes it does get in.
ByI wish I could find a way to can whatever it is that people seem to get out of some of the things I teach. The email I got today from Trish was just amazing. She took on a deal that prior to my trading day she wouldn’t have looked at and made $404,000 IN ONE DAY!!
You can’t argue with tangible results like that.
But what is it that enabled her to listen to what I had to say and act on it when the next 20 people wouldn’t??
Well there is no easy answer. I could say it’s her personality type, her education or a raft of other things.
But I don’t think any of those are the real answer.
I will however say this: I don’t know Trish, I have only spoken to her once on the phone. And when Idid speak with her she came across as someone who was basically “happy”. She sounded like she enjoyed life. She laughed a lot during our brief conversation.
Now you might think well I’d enjoy life if i’d just made four hundred grand but that would be missing my point.
The point is that people who basically are happy, positive and “content”, get better results in every area of their life. They are less afraid to take risks, they get sick less often and they enjoy better relationships, jobs and financial outcomes.
So for you and I what it means is that we need to pursue those things that make us unhappy, deal with our demons and skeletons. This needs to be an essential part of our investing strategy. There is no point being miserable and running around trying to buy deals. Apart from anything else your negativity will emanate out of you to every agent, buyer and vendor you talk to so you are effectively sabotaging your own efforts if you don’t look at the things that stop you from living.
Now this doesn’t mean that we need to be swinging from the ceiling to succeed but understand that negativity will come across as insincerity and doubt and that will kill your efforts when negotiating and trying to build relationships with agents and vendors.
It may have only been a song title but there is a lot of power in the phrase “Don’t worry, be happy”.
